Completed the same year as Imagined Landscape, I created this large-scale artwork in my studio in Springfield in 2001.  I was influenced by jazz while creating it, specifically Coltrane, hence the title.  I hope you can sense the musicality.

It was one of my first breakthrough drawings, meaning it is one he was proud of at an early age. (2001)  I was studying at Missouri State at the time under Zhi Lin.  This was his second large scale abstract drawing. At that period, I was heavily influenced by improvisational jazz, particularly Coltrane.  There was a starting point, and then the picture evolved from that.  There wasn't a specific end destination.
I recall my first impression of it was huge because it was the first time I understood the sense of space in an abstract work.  This piece has meaning to me as well for that reason.  Though the artwork never made a showing in Central Park West, it did exhibit in the Upper East Side at DT/UT in 2002.

This beautiful artwork is currently rolled for safe storage and is unframed.
